Mangalore University organizes induction & graduates meet for int’l students

“Mangalore University is one of the best Universities for International students as there is a spirit of caring here and the University really cares for its students.  I am happy to be here to witness the good energy and vibrations at this event” said Mr. P. Venugopal, Regional Director ICCR.

He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the Induction Programme and Graduates Meet organised by the International Students Centre at Mangalagangothri on August 9.

According to the chief guest, the government of India is offering about 3000 scholarships for students to study in India and Karnataka state headed by the Bangalore office is having the largest number of student of about 1,300 from about 60 countries.

“This scholarship will benefit the deserving students who have come to our country not only to acquire knowledge but also to be our ambassadors wherever they are,” he added in an interview.

He added that the scholarships offered a great opportunity to further career goals and also understand the culture of India. He also said that students should be studious and disciplined and follow all procedures of progress reports, leave, FRRO among others.

While acknowledging the effort of the former vice chancellor of Mangalore University Prof. K. Byrappa in transforming the university and making it an international one, the acting vice chancellor Prof. Kishore Kumar C.K. entreated the graduates and new students to always remember him for being the brain behind admittance of international students adding that, they got the opportunity to study in the university because of him.

“You are all lucky to be part of our university. He has sacrificed a lot for the benefit of international students; he worked day and night and has taken a lot of risks to provide the necessary facilities for international students,” he stressed.

Prof. Kishore also mentioned that, a recent university ranking by India Today placed Mangalore University 14th in India and 1st in state (Karnataka state) as best government university.

Prof. Ravishankar Rao, director of the international centre, stated that Mangalore University is a university that cares for its students and the presence of international students had given the university a new dimension as part of a global community.

“The university was glad to assist the government of India and government of Karnataka in internationalising higher education,” he added.

Highlighting on the formalities of the university with respect to international students, Prof. Ravishankar Rao asked the students to submit their leave application form whenever they are going out of station or leaving the country.

“Whenever you are leaving the country, you must also fill the leaving headquarters form and must also report to the local FRRO office and inform them that you are leaving the country for permit to that effect,” he added.

Prof. Rao further urged the international students to actively participate and attend cultural events of the university.

The graduates including Rasheed Aslamy, Francis Lugemwa, Amanuel Negatu and Samrita from Afghanistan, Uganda, Ethiopia and Nepal respectively who could not hide their excitement after successful completion of their study, thanked management of Mangalore University and ICCR for the opportunity to study in India while sharing their experiences.

Prof. A.M. Khan, Registrar Evaluation who was also present at the event, welcomed the gathering.

35 international students from 12 countries who joined the university this year were also welcomed during the meet.

This year’s event was characterized by cultural performances, singing and poetry recitals from some of the international students.
